Talks about Belarus’ financial dependence on Russia dismissed as harmful, biased

MOGILEV, 12 October (BelTA) – Talks about Belarus’ financial and economic dependence on Russia coming from the information and analytical centers of Russia and other countries are harmful and biased, Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich said at a plenary session of the 5th Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia in Mogilev on 12 October, BelTA has learned.

The chairman of the Council of the Republic stressed that he could not but touch upon this issue. “Such attitudes are harmful both for Belarus and Russia and are out of touch with reality,” Mikhail Myasnikovich said.

In his words, the level of Belarus’ public debt stays within the limits recommended for emerging markets. The country services its public debt and loans without fail. “Short lending terms, changes in foreign currency markets necessitate refinancing in foreign currency. As we do this openly, some may think Belarus has been accumulating its debts. This is not about new borrowings but about the need to refinance a part of the financial loan obligations,” he said.
