Talented children from Syria explore education opportunities in Belarus

MINSK, 18 January (BelTA) - Talented children from Syria are showing interest in studying at Belarusian universities, Director of the National Center for Distinguished Students of Syria Dr. Iskandar Munif told the media during a visit of the Syrian children to the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NASB) on 18 January, BelTA has learned.

“We are very happy to visit Belarus. This visit can open up new opportunities for our talented children. They are schoolchildren now and are planning their future. Some of the graduates of the center have entered, for example, Kazan Federal University in Russia. Yesterday, we visited the Belarusian State University. The children were provided with the information about the departments and subjects taught at the university. Last year the center launched the Russian language courses for the students to provide them with an opportunity to study here. I think that in a few months there will be another visit during which the necessary documents will be signed to enable Syrian students to receive education in Belarus," Dr. Iskandar Munif said.

The National Center for Distinguished Students of Syria offers special programs for students to study abroad. Among the majors are mechanics, biomedicine, IT and aviation.

Dr. Iskandar Munif welcomed Belarus’ openness to cooperation with foreign citizens, including Syrians. “We are impressed with the importance that the state attaches to science and are grateful for the opportunity to visit the country,” he added.

A group of children from Syria are holidaying in the national children’s educational and health center Zubryonok from 15 to 29 January, in accordance with the agreement reached during a meeting between Belarus’ president and the social affairs and labor minister of the Syrian Arab Republic at the end of August of 2017. On 18 January the children got familiar with the latest developments of Belarusian scientists, met with the leadership of the National Academy of Sciences and the Bureau of the Young Scientists Council. They are set to visit a number of scientific organizations of the NASB.

The program of holidays includes recreational, sporting, cultural and sports events. The Syrian kids are scheduled to go sightseeing the Naroch Lake district and to visit the National Art Museum of Belarus, the National Academic Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theater, the Dolphinarium Nemo and Nesvizh Castle. During a visit to the Nanosy-Novoselye agro-tourism facility and a Cultural Heritage of Belarus tour the guests from Syria will get acquainted with the culture, and traditions of the Belarusian people.
