Strengthening of Union State viewed as joint priority of Belarus, Russia

MINSK, 29 May (BelTA) – The strengthening of the Union State is an absolute joint priority of Belarus and Russia, Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Lavrov said as he met with students and teachers of the Academy of Public Administration under the aegis of the President of the Republic of Belarus on 29 May, BelTA has learned.

According to Sergei Lavrov, there is a high level of trust and understanding between Russia and Belarus. “The strengthening of the Union State is an absolute joint priority for the two countries. Concrete ways of enhancing its effectiveness are laid out in the new important document “Priorities and further development of the Union State until 2022”. This is truly a good and ambitious document which will be submitted for approval at the next meeting of the Supreme State Council of the Union State. It covers the whole range of issues of bilateral cooperation, from the formation of a unified legal space, including the convergence of our laws, to economic, humanitarian and other aspects,” the Russian minister noted.

Sergei Lavrov said that Russia and Belarus are reliable allies and strategic partners. “Our relationships are inclusive. We have reaffirmed this during an hour-long conversation with Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko and detailed negotiations with Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei,” he said.
