St Petersburg governor praises Belarusian manufacturing sector

ST PETERSBURG, 24 June (BelTA) - Belarusian industry has high competence that make its products competitive in world markets, St. Petersburg Governor Alexander Beglov said as he met with Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko on 24 June, BelTA has learned.

“Welcome to St Petersburg. I am glad to see you here. Thank you for finding time for this meeting. It is important to me,” the governor said greeting the Belarusian head of state. “I remember our meeting in Minsk [in February 2022], and your cordial welcome. Thank you for the instructions you gave to your government. It has produced significant results.”

“I have once again seen that you pursue the right policy with regard to industry and medicine. Today you have not only preserved industry, which has always been the most advanced in Belarus, but also added competence. Today your manufacturing sector is so competent that it is competitive in the world markets. We buy a lot from you and cooperate with the [Belarusian] industry,” Alexander Beglov said.

In his words, the Belarusian trading house has been successfully operating in St Petersburg and the products it sells are in demand.

According to the governor, following his visit to Belarus a meeting of the intergovernmental council for business cooperation was held at the instruction of Aleksandr Lukashenko. “Road maps have been developed virtually in all areas through 2026. This applies to industry, economy, healthcare, education and other sectors. I would like to say that these are business documents which implementation is already underway,” the governor stressed.

He cited data on contracts concluded with Belarus and supplies of machinery and other products. For instance, contracts for purchase of 900 MAZ buses have been signed this year and St. Petersburg has already received 500 buses. “St Petersburg citizens make a good use of these high-quality vehicles. We do not need any Western analogues. Belarusian buses are wonderful vehicles, running on environmentally friendly gas-motor fuel,” Alexander Beglov said.

According to him, contracts have also been signed for the delivery of 100 trolleybuses. There are agreements to purchase electric buses and utilities vehicles (about 1,200 units), which, by the way, are suitable for work in small courtyards of St. Petersburg.

According to the governor, after the visit of the presidents of Belarus and Russia to the Vostochny Cosmodrome the corresponding instructions were given and joint activities were launched. “You have good enterprises in this respect, you have maintained a good level. We have reached an agreement and now we will work in this direction,” he noted.

The governor stressed: “What I saw in Belarus leaves great impressions. The fact that we are friends today is a sign of respect and trust to each other. Yes, we have different countries, but we have one nation.”
