Speaker: Belarus’ 2020 budget should lay groundwork for new five-year term

MINSK, 5 November (BelTA) – Belarus’ national budget for 2020 should lay the groundwork for the new five-year term, Chairman of the House of Representatives Vladimir Andreichenko said as MPs met with Prime Minister Sergei Rumas and members of the government, BelTA has learned.

The 2020 budget bill was the main item on the agenda of the meeting. “The document should lay the groundwork for the new five-year period that starts in 2021 and also for reaching the GDP target of $100 billion by 2025,” Vladimir Andreichenko said.

“In this way, we will fulfill the instruction of the head of state to stabilize the economy by means of maintaining macroeconomic stability, implementing balanced fiscal policies and concentrating resources on those sectors that can yield tangible economic results,” the speaker said.

He added that the 2020 budget is even more socially oriented that the previous ones. The budget expenditures priorities include welfare of citizens, support for large families, and social and economic development of the territories.
