Slutsky: Electoral practice in Belarus has become closer to people

MINSK, 11 September (BelTA) – The electoral practice in Belarus has become closer to people, Leonid Slutsky, the Chairman of the State Duma committee for the CIS countries, Eurasian integration and relations with compatriots, head of the observation mission from the Union State Parliamentary Assembly, told the media, BelTA has learned.

“Comparing the elections with the previous president polls or previous elections to the House of Representatives (it's certainly a preliminary impression) I can say that the electoral practice has become better, closer to people in Belarus. Many subtle nuances, which are not obvious at first glance, suggest that the electoral practices get improved in a real and practical manner,” Leonid Slutsky said.

The observer also noted that today’s political system in Belarus generally corresponds to the world standards, norms of international law. “Every time this is convincingly proved by the results of the voting by people who happily go to the polls, vote for their President, for Parliament,” he added.

The chairman of the committee pointed to the large number of election observers. “Belarus has nothing to hide. Belarus does not limit the number of people who can come to the country from different missions,” he said.

The head of the observation mission noted that the elections to the State Duma will be held on 18 September, which is very symbolic. “The past-convocation House of Representatives and State Duma cooperated very closely in international organizations, and on the bilateral agenda,” he said.
