Shamko: Free Belarusian visas for foreign participants of sport events

Shamko: Free Belarusian visas for foreign participants of sport events

GOMEL, 3 March (BelTA) – Free visas will be issued to foreign participants of over 30 major sport events that will take place in Belarus this year, BelTA learned from Belarusian Sports and Tourism Minister Alexander Shamko on 3 March.

The list of the sport events, which participants will be granted free Belarusian visas, has been agreed already. It includes over 30 international level competitions. Athletes have already used the procedure to take part in the Youth/Junior World Championships in Belarus in February and the final stage of the Freestyle Ski World Cup in early March, said Alexander Shamko.

“If necessary, the list may be extended during the year,” stressed the official.

The practice of lifting visa restrictions was used for the duration of the world ice hockey championship in Belarus. The measure was deemed effective, this is why the Sports and Tourism Ministry has come forward with the initiative of creating a list of large-scale sport events, which participants will get free visas.
