MINSK, 20 July (BelTA) – Belarus is eager to expand political and interparliamentary contacts with Arab countries, backing them with a concrete agenda, Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Igor Sergeyenko said during a meeting with an Arab Parliament delegation led by its President Mohammed Ahmed Al-Yamahi in Minsk on 20 July, BelTA has learned.
“We are eager to further expand our political and interparliamentary contacts. Naturally, these ties need to be backed by a concrete agenda, especially since our countries share many mutual interests,” Igor Sergeyenko said.
The speaker noted that Belarus has always valued its relations with the League of Arab States and its members. Furthermore, next year will mark a milestone anniversary – the 20th anniversary of cooperation with this influential international organization.
“Together, we advocate for compliance with universally recognized principles and norms of international law, equal cooperation, and cultural diversity,” the chairman of the House of Representatives said. He added that Belarus consistently supports the stance of Arab countries on the international stage, including on matters of regional and global peace and security.

Igor Sergeyenko pointed to cooperation with colleagues at international venues, including the Inter-Parliamentary Union, the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly, the BRICS parliamentary dimension, and the Pan-African Parliament.
“We are ready to discuss any initiatives, and most importantly, as the head of state noted today, we must deliver results,” he emphasized.
The speaker also pointed to other areas of cooperation, such as exchanging legislative experience and revitalizing friendship groups. It is also important to expand economic and trade ties with countries in Africa, Asia, and the Middle East.
The chairman of the House of Representatives added that the Belarusian side is always ready to engage in a constructive dialogue based on mutual respect for each other’s positions.
Overall, the speaker noted that the country attaches great importance to the visit of the Arab Parliament delegation and expects that it will open a new chapter in the history of cooperation between Belarus and the Arab League.
“I am sure that the discussed topics will be further developed and serve as a foundation for continuing our long-term and fruitful cooperation on many issues,” Igor Sergeyenko concluded.
