Senator: Belarusians, Russians are inseparable thanks to centuries-old brotherhood, friendship

MINSK, 2 April (BelTA) - Chairperson of the Council of the Republic Natalya Kochanova extended greetings to Chairperson of the Federation Council Valentina Matviyenko, Chairperson of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin and Deputy Chairperson of the Federation Council Yury Vorobyov on the occasion of the Day of Unity of the Peoples of Belarus and Russia marked on 2 April, BelTA learned from the press service of the upper house of the Belarusian parliament.

In her greetings Natalya Kochanova emphasized that centuries-old brotherhood and sincere friendship have long united generations of citizens of the two countries.

“Lessons of the past show us that only through joint efforts, continuing to strengthen our unity, we are able to meet any challenges and maintain peace and tranquility. Belarus and Russia have come a long way to achieve the main goal - to create the necessary conditions for sustainable development, to improve the well-being and living standards of the peoples. Today, when the international community is going through difficult times of conflicts and threats, our union, celebrating the 25th anniversary, is of special value,” the press service said.

Valentina Matviyenko said in her congratulations that today the two countries face ambitious tasks, which are to open new prospects for stable development of the national economies in order to improve the wellbeing of the citizens.

“Joint work demonstrates the importance of the parliamentary dialogue between Russia and Belarus, which contributes to achieving significant results in the work to implement all existing agreements, including in the area of interregional cooperation, which is the focus of the annual Forum of Regions of Russia and Belarus,” the speaker of the Federation Council said.

Chairperson of the State Duma, Chairperson of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Belarus-Russian Union State Vyacheslav Volodin stressed that “the alignment of national legislations within the Parliamentary Assembly contributes to the development of the Union State for the benefit of our brotherly peoples, improving the quality of life of people, and the implementation of joint projects”.

“Messages of greetings were also received from Deputy Chairperson of the Federation Council Yury Vorobyov and Secretary General - Head of the Secretariat of the Council of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the Commonwealth of Independent States Dmitry Kobitsky,” the press service of the Council of the Republic said.
