Schuebel: Belarus-EU cooperation covers many domains

MINSK, 4 October (BelTA) – The cooperation between Belarus and the European Union covers so many activities that it is easier to name the domains where contacts have not been established yet, Ambassador of the European Union to the Republic of Belarus Dirk Schuebel said at the consultation on the future of the Eastern Partnership in Minsk, BelTA has learned.
“The Republic of Belarus and the European Union maintain regular contacts on integrated management of borders, energy efficiency, alternative energy sources, entrepreneurship promotion, finances and environmental conservation. Indeed, it is easier to name the areas where Belarus and the EU have not collaborated yet, where we have not searched for new challenges and pursued common goals,” Dirk Schuebel said.
At present the European Union is working on a new strategy for the Eastern Partnership initiative and is studying proposals of the Eastern Partners. “We are discussing cooperation prospects and are ready to hear out Belarus’ proposals. We are looking forward to your ideas and would like to get feedback from as many Belarusians as possible,” Dirk Schuebel said.
“The EU delegation appreciates your constant support, your ideas, views and vision. Now it is up to us to build the future of the Eastern Partnership,” he assured.
The consultation on the future of the Eastern Partnership was initiated by the European Union on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the EaP.
The consultation on the future of the Eastern Partnership is taking place on 4 October and consists of three consecutive panels. Representatives of legislative and executive authorities, civil society and other participants of the forum will discuss a broad range of issues, with a focus on ways to boost cooperation in the Eastern Partnership.
The Eastern Partnership initiative was launched in May 2009. It aims to build closer ties between the European Union and six Eastern Partners, including Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine.
