Russia happy to be special guest at 2019 Minsk Book Fair

MINSK, 6 February (BelTA) – We are happy to be a special guest of the 26th edition of the Minsk International Book Fair, Mikhail Shvydkoi, Special Representative of the Russian President on International Cultural Cooperation, said at the official opening ceremony of the book fair on 6 February, BelTA has learned.

“The Minsk International Book Fair gives a start to the annual series of book fairs around the world. In 2019 it is the first important event in the book industry,” Mikhail Shvydkoi said.

In his words, 2019 has been declared the Year of Book in the CIS. “It is highly important that it is Belarus that open the year, which will be full of events dedicated to the publishing industry and literature of our countries. The big event that is getting underway in Minsk today is an important example for the entire post-Soviet space and beyond. We are sincerely grateful for the invitation to be partners at the book forum. I hope that our stand will be interesting for every visitor of the fair,” the special representative of the Russian president said.

This year, the stand of Russia, a traditional exhibitor of the Minsk Book Fair, occupies 200 square meters and features more than 500 books from the country’s leading publishers. Russia promises an eventful program with the participation of popular Russian poets and writers.

The 26th Minsk International Book Fair will be held under the slogan "More Than Books" from 6 to 10 February. Some 60,000 people are expected to visit the fair. The organizers of the Minsk International Book Fair are the Information Ministry, the Minsk City Hall and the Belarusian Union of Writers. Co-organizers are the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Education Ministry, the Culture Ministry, Belkniga and Makbel book selling companies.
