Rumas: Second support package will be focused on households
Sergei Rumas

MINSK, 14 May (BelTA) - The second package of support measures, which is being finalized in the government, will be focused specifically on households, Belarus Prime Minister Sergei Rumas told reporters, BelTA has learned.

“The second package features the measures to support people. For example, the government suggests making additional payments from the budget to those working part-time and getting less than the minimum wage. There are a number of other measures that are meant to support citizens,” the prime minister said.

“The requirement of the head of state remains unchanged. Today it has been communicated to the government once again. The main thing in this difficult time (we understand that crises come and go) is to keep labor collectives. By keeping labor collectives, we keep enterprises working. When the markets open, these enterprises will be ready to fill the niches that emerged during the forced downtime in other states,” Sergei Rumas noted.

Speaking about the second package of support measures, the prime minister said that the president had returned the package to the government for finalizing . “The president requires that no assistance at the local level should be distributed without the participation of local authorities. Therefore, we are finalizing this package of support measures, taking this requirement into account. Indeed, this is a fair remark. The governors are ready to spearhead this work and, accordingly, bear responsibility for the results. They know better which businesses and sectors need support,” Sergei Rumas noted.

He added that early next week the government will finalize the package of measures taking into account the remarks of the head of state and will send the documents to the Presidential Administration.
