Regional development in Belarus needs attention at local level

MINSK, 12 March (BelTA) – Regional development in Belarus requires serious attention from both central and local authorities, Head of the Belarus President Administration Natalya Kochanova said in an interview to the Belarus 1 TV channel, BelTA informs.

According to Natalya Kochanova, the local level is the main link that is to address the tasks. Where there is a responsible approach, there are results. The fulfillment of the social and economic development forecasts is not an end in itself. The main thing is create jobs, achieve a good level of wages. In these matters, local authorities should be more active, the head of the Belarus President Administration stressed.

The problems that concern local residents, including the ones related to water supply, improvements or employment should also be monitored.

Natalya Kochanova highlighted employment issues, especially for young people. “We can see that 30% of the unemployed are young people. It is very important to support the youth at this stage,” she said, adding that the President’s Administration pays close attention to employment issues. Decree No. 1 has been developed for the purpose as well. Special commissions will be set up in every city.

“The implementation of this decree will make it possible to resolve issues related to employment more effectively. We can see that the situation is changing for the better,” noted Natalya Kochanova.
