R&D cooperation described as Belarus’, Russia’s future

MOSCOW, 30 June (BelTA) – Cooperation in the area of innovations is the future of Belarus and Russia. Belarusian Economy Minister Vladimir Zinovsky made the statement during the plenary session of the fourth Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia on 30 June, BelTA has learned.

The official said: “Cooperation in research and development and innovations is our future. A jointly created innovative product will be able to break through any barriers. Our two countries will have a vested interest in it.” In his words, programs of the Union State of Belarus and Russia need to pay attention to support for innovative infrastructure.

Vladimir Zinovsky reminded that within the framework of the Eurasian Economic Union the countries had supported the creation of 12 innovative technology platforms in areas like biotechnologies, light-emitting diodes, healthcare, and other promising areas. “Those are real platforms for commercializing R&D results,” he stressed. The preparation of three pilot projects in the area of space exploration, pharmaceutics, and agribusiness is in progress. The economy minister described cooperation in the area of space technologies as one of the most promising cooperation avenues.

In his report Vladimir Zinovsky also emphasized that the jointly established Union State company for engineering machine tools is supposed to start working this year.
