Putin hails World Congress of Russian Press as one of key events in Russian-language media space

MINSK, 12 July (BelTA) – The World Congress of Russian Press is viewed as one of the key events in the Russian-language media space, reads a message of greetings from Russian President Vladimir Putin to the participants of the 19th World Congress of Russian Press “Partnership for the future: priorities of modern civilization.” The message was read out by Assistant to the Russian President Igor Shchegolev, BelTA has learned.

“Your regular meetings are rightfully considered to be one of the key events in the Russian-language media space, in the Russian-speaking world,” reads the message.

The message underlines that for many years the World Association of Russian Press has united heads of print media outlets, fellow Russians abroad, all those who cherish the Russian language and culture. “During the forum held in the hospitable Belarusian land you will meet with colleagues and friends, share best journalistic practices, discuss professional issues. Of course, you have a good understanding of the enormous educational and consolidating potential of the media, their special responsibility for fair and impartial coverage of the events around the planet,” the message reads.

“I am convinced that the congress will take place in the creative businesslike atmosphere and will give a start to new major relevant projects that will contribute to the strengthening of the international humanitarian cooperation,” the message notes.

The 19th World Congress of Russian Press opened in Minsk on 12 July. Belarus is hosting the congress for the second time. The first time was in 2013.

The 19th World Congress of Russian Press is organized by the World Association of Russian Press, the Belarusian Information Ministry, and the World Russian Press Foundation.

The World Association of Russian Press was established on 24 June 1999. It is an open international non-governmental association of print and digital media, news agencies, publishing houses, television channels, and radio programs. According to the WARP Council, newspapers, magazines, publishing houses, radio and television broadcasts in Russian are now available in over 70 countries across the globe. A significant number of them are represented in WARP or cooperate with the association.
