MINSK, 1 April (BelTA) – Honest businesses can count on support and protection of the state in Belarus, BelTA learned from Viktor Chaichits, a member of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus, Chairman of the Belarusian National Bar Association.

Viktor Chaichits said: “No doubt, in crisis periods businessmen have to deny some things to themselves and run their business in the face of limitations. In the current situation an honest business can and should count on support and protection of the state – it is what helping people is all about.”

In his words, they have been saying often recently that the state should help small and medium businesses survive in the current complicated situation. For instance, by reducing the size of rent, postponing tax payments and loan payments and so on. “To get this kind of assistance is a normal desire of the private sector,” the senator noted.

At the same time the government did a lot to liberalize business operation terms even before the pandemic. “To the credit of businessmen many of them spoke out in favor of program documents, for instance, the Entrepreneurship Development Ordinance and the Digital Economy Development Ordinance. They also criticized and sometimes condemned those businessmen, who had been given tax preferences and yet had tried to dodge taxes. But when the tax service raised a strong barrier to protect state interests, businessmen started trying to swindle each other more and more often,” the senator said.

According to Viktor Chaichits, in this difficult time everyone should take to heart demands and recommendations of the head of state and the government, everyone should treat their employees well. Hardships of every person and every commercial entity should be taken into account.
