Prices, possible investments in telecommunications in focus of Belarusian government conference

Prices, possible investments in telecommunications in focus of Belarusian government conference

MINSK, 19 March (BelTA) – Pricing policy and possible investments on the Belarusian telecommunication market were discussed during the government conference hosted by the head of state on 19 March, BelTA learned from First Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Alexander Turchin.

The official said: “The head of state pays close attention to the sphere of information and communication technologies. Today it is one of the drivers of our economy’s growth. The topic of the government conference was dedicated to further development of this sector. The president was interested in many matters, including possible approaches to finding investors for this sphere, the regulation of prices on this market. The head of state is primarily concerned about the cost of services for the population.”

According to Alexander Turchin, during the government conference Alexander Lukashenko gave several instructions concerning some projects. Detailed calculations will be done once again before the relevant matters are submitted for consideration of the head of state. “And certainly, all of us are getting ready for a conference involving representatives of our IT community. It is the next milestone. We also pay much attention to it,” Alexander Turchin said.

During the government conference the head of state also wondered about the development of the 4G network in Belarus and prospects of reaching 5G standards. A number of other matters relating to the development of mobile technologies and the relevant infrastructure in the country was also discussed.

It was noted that telecommunication industry projects are highly lucrative, promising, and beneficial. This is why it is necessary to continue accumulating competences and forming a domestic school of thought in this area, including in cooperation with investors. “There is no doubt the role of the state in these processes was mentioned. It was a useful conference. We just have to implement the instructions given by the head of state now,” said Alexander Turchin.
