Pietro Parolin: Belarus may set an example in addressing employment issues

MINSK, 18 March (BelTA) - Belarus may set an example in addressing employment issues, Vatican Cardinal Secretary of State Pietro Parolin said in an interview published on the website of the Conference of Catholic Bishops of Belarus, BelTA has learned.

The cardinal of the Catholic Church noted that as far as he knows employment is one of top priorities in Belarus and that the jobless rate in the country is very low. “In my opinion, it is a good sign, especially in the context of the international and European panorama where unemployment is among the main problems today, first of all, among the youth. I venture to say that Belarus may set an example of what issues should be given special priority,” the cardinal said.

All in all, the Vatican Cardinal Secretary of State noted that Belarusians had to live through numerous ordeals during World War II and the times when religion suffered persecution. However, the Belarusian people “were able to withstand all the dramatic and painful moments.”
