MINSK, 2 April (BelTA) – The presidential election will become the key event in Belarus’ political life in 2020, Chairwoman of the Council of the Republic of Belarus’ National Assembly Natalya Kochanova said as she spoke at the opening of the spring session on 2 April, BelTA has learned.
“The presidential election will be the key event in the country’s political life because we will choose the future of our country. It will be a crucial period for all government authorities, and we should get actively involved in preparation and organization of this important political campaign,” she said.
The speaker stressed that the election should be held to a high standard, in full compliance with the Constitution and the current electoral legislation.
Natalya Kochanova noted that this year will see several significant events. “We will mark the 75th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War – a celebration that has become a symbol of freedom and independence cherished by every Belarusian family. Preserving the historical memory of the war, taking care of veterans, and promoting patriotism among the youth are the most important areas of work for the Council of the Republic that should be developed and supported with new projects,” she said.
