Ortega: I’m touched by fans’ support in Minsk

MINSK, 10 September (BelTA) – Spanish sportsman and Olympic silver medalist Orlando Ortega shared his impressions of The Match Europe v USA after winning the men's 110m Hurdles, BelTA has learned.

This is my first visit to Belarus and I am deeply touched by fans’ support at Dinamo stadium. I loved the very idea of this match and I am happy to be here. Minsk is a wonderful city! This stadium is great and the audience is just amazing, Orlando Ortega said.

He noted that he worked hard for this match and, overall, he was satisfied with his performance, even though he said he could have done better.

The competitions included hammer throwing, javelin throwing, discus throwing, 100m dash, 100m hurdles, 110m hurdles, 200m run, 400m run, 400m hurdles, 800m run, 1,500m run, 3,000m run, 3,000m hurdles, a 4x100m relay race, a mixed relay race (200-200-400-800 meters), shot put, triple jump, high jump, long jump, pole vaulting.

Each discipline featured eight athletes (four from Europe and four from the United States). The winner of the competition in each discipline got €7,000, the silver medalist - €5,000, the bronze medalist - €4,000. About 350 athletes competed in the match.  Fourteen Belarusians made part of Team Europe.
