Opinion: Regional business promotion councils should deal with specific issues in Belarus

MINSK, 13 June (BelTA) - Regional business promotion councils should deal with specific issues, Minsk Mayor Andrei Shorets said at the first meeting of the Minsk Business Promotion Council, BelTA has learned.

“I would like us to work actively not only in part of making proposals to change the legislation but also to address specific issues. We are ready to participate in the work of enterprises, to sponsor interest rates from the budget. We lease our real estate on preferential terms, utilizing the Innovation Fund though not to the extent as we would have liked. Our goal is to make sure all your ideas that aim to create jobs, raise wages, increase tax revenues, are put into practice effectively and smoothly. Therefore work with complaints and suggestions from entrepreneurs is an important element of our job,” Andrei Shorets said.

The Minsk City Hall operates a public advisory council on entrepreneurship. The city authorities have also also set up the Minsk Business Promotion Council  which is headed by Andrei Shorets.

At its first meeting the council is considering two complaints forwarded from the Business Promotion Council of Belarus. They are about the controversial issues in leasing relations and penalties that are applied to a manufacturer for failure to pay fines.

“Belarus is developing a system of business councils not only at the top level but also at the level of regions. The council at the Minsk City Hall will be in charge of practical issues, shall deal with complaints from entrepreneurs regarding conflict situations. The national council has the right of legislative initiative to prevent cases of injustice facts in the future,” said Vladimir Karyagin, the Chairman of the Minsk Union of Entrepreneurs and Employers.
