Opinion: Belarus-Russia Union State programs help break the mould in science

MINSK, 24 October (BelTA) – Belarus and Russia can break the mould in science thanks to the implementation of Union State programs, State Secretary of the Belarus-Russia Union State Grigory Rapota told the media ahead of the 6th forum of the Union State engineering and technology universities on 24 October, BelTA has learned.

Grigory Rapota remarked that Belarus and Russia have a promising background, solutions, and ideas that should be effectively put into practice. “This is our task, this is what the Union State programs are designed for: breaking the mould in this field,” he noted.

Young scientists taking part in the forum with their projects and solutions can make a fair contribution. Grigory Rapota emphasized the high level of the engineering and technology school of Belarus and Russia. Young people eagerly enter such universities, the competition is growing, the quality of education is also improving.

The state secretary expressed confidence that the overall dynamics in Belarus-Russia relations is more important than some issues that sometimes arise between both countries’ separate institutions. “The overall dynamics has been positive. Trade has been growing, especially in 2017. This is important. The result is what matters,” Grigory Rapota underlined.

Russia is a major consumer of Belarus’ agricultural products. “They are in demand in Russia. This is the most important thing,” Grigory Rapota believes.

The 6th forum of the Union State engineering and technology universities is taking place at Belarusian National Technical University till 27 October. This year is themed around global energy and international partnership in the contest of climate protection and sustainable development.
