Opinion: Belarus is an internationally recognized peacemaking platform

MINSK, 24 April (BelTA) - Belarus enjoys the status of a recognized peacemaking platform, Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Boleslav Pirshtuk told the media while commenting on the preparations for the 2nd International Parliamentary Conference of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly’s Silk Road Support Group due in Minsk on 28-30 April, BelTA has learned.

“In recent years Belarus has positioned itself as a successful peacemaking platform. We have hosted a lot of major political events recently. Of course, this is thanks to the strategic position of the state as a whole, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The past few years have been packed with events. Last year alone the OSCE secretary general made three visits to Belarus.  This never happened before. We see the attitude towards us at various international forums which we attend,” Boleslav Pirshtuk said.

According to him, all Belarus-sponsored initiatives and resolutions are supported at OSCE PA sessions. “They are adopted almost unanimously and we have full support as an equal participant of this credible organization. We would like the MPs to make a contribution to the development of this Silk Road cooperation that is being developed with China, our strategic partner,” the vice speaker noted.

Boleslav Pirshtuk recalled that a high-level Belarusian delegation is currently on a visit to China. “We need to accumulate all our successes. It is important to provide support, including at the level of parliament. We believe that this is a very good platform which will yield positive results in the next few years,” he added.
