Opinion: Belarus’ international logistics projects can facilitate trade with Tajikistan

MINSK, 1 December (BelTA) – The implementation of Belarus’ international projects in logistics will facilitate trade with Tajikistan, Belarusian Agriculture and Food Minister Leonid Zayats told BelTA.

“As for Tajikistan, the logistics are complicated. What we plan to do together with Kazakhstan, however, will open up other corridors and opportunities and will make the export to Tajikistan easier,” the minister said.

BelTA reported earlier that Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko and Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev discussed the establishment of multimodal transport corridors during negotiations in Minsk on 29 November. This is a global project which also involves China and several EU member states.

The sides are considering setting up a joint venture to process milk and poultry in Tajikistan, Leonid Zayats added. “This is close to Afghanistan which also shows interest in Belarusian food products,” he remarked.

In general, there is a big interest in cooperation with Belarus in agribusiness: selling breeding cattle, producing potato planting material and grain seeds.

Following the negotiations between the presidents of Belarus and Tajikistan, relevant government bodies signed an agreement on agricultural cooperation. Another cooperation agreement was signed between the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and Tajikistan’s Academy of Agricultural Sciences.
