MINSK, 17 July (BelTA) – Belarus has chosen the right strategy to combat COVID-19, Director of the Minsk Center for Surgery, Transplantation and Hematology, member of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly Oleg Rummo told BelTA.

“Coronavirus pneumonia is a biological war that was declared on the entire humankind. Doctors and nurses are officers and soldiers in this war. In order to win such a big war, three things are needed: competent leadership, support of the entire society and sophisticated weapons. Today's commissioning of a new computed tomography scan in Minsk Municipal Hospital No. 5 can be compared to provision of super-advanced weapons. The fact that in a fairly short period of time we coped with this very difficult situation that affected the world and Belarus suggests that we have chosen the right tactics, that we are prepared and armed," said Oleg Rummo.

According to him, all this has helped us minimize human and financial losses and survive the pandemic. “We have also laid a solid foundation for the future, since it is possible that new challenges like that will emerge. If so, we will be much better armed than in March. Therefore, I am sure that the purchase of ten CT scans is an absolutely right and necessary decision that proves again that we have chosen the right and effective tactics,” he said.

On 17 July a computed tomography office was inaugurated in Minsk Municipal Hospital No. 5. The hospital received the first of ten CT scans that were delivered to Belarus through personal agreement of the head of state and Mikhail Gutseriev. The Slavkaliy company financed the re-equipment of healthcare facilities of the Belarusian capital. All the ten CT devices already arrived in the country. At present there are 18 CT scans in Minsk.
