Newly appointed Belarusian defense minister talks about work priorities

MINSK, 20 January (BelTA) – Viktor Khrenin was appointed Belarusian Defense Minister on 20 January. He talked to reporters about priorities of his new work, BelTA has learned.

The defense minister said: “Work with people is the top priority. There is a great demand for justice and honesty in the Belarusian society. People, preserving the potential of the personnel and teaching them what they need in time of war must be in focus. It is also necessary to properly maintain the available hardware and keep it ready for deployment.”

“If we have well-trained people and the hardware, we will fear no threat. This is why most of the attention will be focused on these two areas,” the Belarusian defense minister added.

New Chief of the General Staff Aleksandr Volfovich also mentioned top priorities in his work. He noted he is familiar with requirements of the job because he had worked as acting chief of the General Staff for months. He said he had concluded there must be no red-tape and formalistic attitudes in this work. “Objectiveness must prevail in the evaluation of results and in decision-making. We should take good care of personnel, enable proper conditions for officers and NCOs, maintain army bases in good order,” Aleksandr Volfovich said.

In his words, the accomplishment of the tasks the defense minister and the Armed Forces as a whole face will depend on systemic and quality work of the General Staff.
