National Theater Award among most important projects of Year of Culture

MINSK, 21 November (BelTA) – The National Theater Award is one of the most important projects of the Year of Culture, Belarus’ Culture Minister Boris Svetlov said at the opening ceremony of the final stage of the 4th national theater art competition National Theater Award on 21 November.

“We have 21 projects presented in 19 nominations that will provide us with the current state of our theater art. In my opinion it is the most important project in the Year of Culture. It will show us our real attitude to the theater today,” said Boris Svetlov.

The minister noted that the theater award demonstrates a very high professional level of the competitors.

The final stage of the theater art competition will take place in Minsk on 26 November. Different theaters will host shows of the nominees in the following categories: the Best Play for Children and Youth, the Best Music Play, the Best Puppet Show, the Best Ballet, the Best Opera, the Best Drama, the Best Reproduction of the Belarusian Literature Works. Winners of the Art Patron of the Year and For the Contribution to the Art Development awards will also be named.

The competition week kicked off with the play Chaika (Yanka Kupala National Academic Theater).

The awards ceremony is scheduled for 27 November.

The contest is organized by the Culture Ministry and the Minsk City Hall. Partaking in the contest, which is held once in two years, can be professional artistic companies. The National Theater Award was first presented in 2011.
