Myasnikovich: Belarus-Indonesia relations to drive EEU-ASEAN cooperation

MINSK, 25 May (BelTA) – Belarus and Indonesia may become the engine of cooperation between the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). The point of view was expressed by Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich, who took part in the meeting of Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko with Speaker of the Regional Representative Council of the People’ Consultative Assembly of Indonesia Irman Gusman, BelTA has learned.

Mikhail Myasnikovich said: “I think there are good prospects of cooperation between the Eurasian Economic Union, of which Belarus is a member, and ASEAN countries where Indonesia’s economy is one of the largest and determines the policy of the region to a great extent.”

He said the goal of raising Belarusian-Indonesian trade turnover up to $1 billion by 2018 was ambitious but feasible.

“It is necessary to restart Belarusian-Indonesian relations for a new stage of cooperation. More attention should be paid to innovative and investment cooperation,” the head of the upper chamber of the Belarus parliament was convinced.
