MINSK, 12 November (BelTA) - Belarus is ready for open, active, engaged cooperation with the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, Andrei Savinykh, the Chairman of the Standing Committee on International Affairs of the House of Representatives, the  head of the Belarusian parliament delegation to the OSCE PA, told the media. Today he is taking part in an online meeting of the Standing Committee of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, BelTA has learned.

“We are committed to open, active, engaged cooperation with the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly and the parliamentary dimensions of other international organizations. This is the alpha and omega of our parliamentary politics. We are ready to discuss issues of mutual interest and to act as an active partner in international dialogue with our colleagues. We will also make efforts to establish contacts through the OSCE PA with member states at the bilateral level,” Andrei Savinykh noted.

The MP noted that this is a scheduled meeting of the Standing Committee of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly. "Today we will be discussing the rule of procedure which the OSCE PA is modernizing today. We will also hear the Treasurer's report on expenditures and discuss the OSCE PA chairman's report on the situation in the OSCE region. I am sure that delegations will exchange views on all relevant issues of mutual interest," he said.

Andrei Savinykh added that the situation with food in the world is on the agenda. "Executive Director of the United Nations World Food Programme David Beasley delivered a report describing the situation with food in the world as very critical. I was struck by the figures that the number of people who are starving has increased from 80 million to 130 million in just a few years. Some 17-18 countries are having real food problems. This is the situation that we face at the level of the world community," he said.
