Minsk’s role in Ukrainian conflict resolution noted

MILAN, 9 September (BelTA) – Minsk plays an important diplomatic role in the resolution of the Ukrainian situation, BelTA learned from Romano Prodi, President of the Foundation for Worldwide Cooperation, a former prime minister of Italy, during the panel session held on 9 September to discuss Belarus as a European partner and access to the Eurasian market.

Romano Prodi said: “It is no accident that the talks on Ukraine take place in Belarus. The fact admits that this complicated diplomatic game can be resolved in Belarus easiest of all.” The Italian politician pointed out that some parties underestimate the complexity of the Ukrainian conflict.

In his words, Belarus can become not only a transport and economic bridge between the European Union and the Eurasian Economic Union but an intellectual bridge as well. “Today Belarus recognizes itself as part of Europe. It means it is ready for tighter cooperation with European partners,” said Romano Prodi.

The panel session took place at premises of the Milan Stock Exchange on 9 September. It gathered about 250 representatives of Belarusian and Italian private companies and government agencies.
