Minsk-Havana political dialogue at highest level, says Cuban parliament speaker

MINSK, 11 August (BelTA) – Political dialogue between Minsk and Havana is at the highest level, President of Cuba’s National Assembly of People’s Power Juan Esteban Lazo Hernández said in a video address to participants of an exhibition in the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Fidel Castro’s birth, BelTA has learned.

“Cuba and Belarus have maintained uninterrupted diplomatic relations since 1992, although close ties between our peoples go back to Soviet times. Many young Cuban men studied on this land during the years of the USSR, and the first tractors for the development of our agriculture came from Belarus. Today, political dialogue between our countries is at the highest level, and both governments prioritize bilateral relations,” Juan Esteban Lazo Hernández said.

He also noted that in recent years, Cuba and Belarus have stepped up bilateral and interparliamentary ties. “Since 2023, an agreement on interparliamentary cooperation has been in place, which has allowed our legislative bodies to develop joint work schedules. We are conducting analysis and parliamentary oversight of bilateral ties in a range of areas that have already produced concrete outcomes. In 2025 and 2026, we held three working seminars focused on agriculture, industry, healthcare and biotechnology,” the president of Cuba’s National Assembly emphasized.

The House of Representatives of the National Assembly is hosting an exhibition dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of legendary Cuban leader Fidel Castro. Organized with the support of the BelTA news agency, the National Archives of Belarus and the Belarusian State Museum of the Great Patriotic War History, the exhibition includes photographs of Fidel Castro’s visit to the BSSR in 1972, archival materials, and museum artifacts reflecting the history of Belarus-Cuba ties.
