MFA reaffirms Belarus’ adherence to one-China policy

MINSK, 19 January (BelTA) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reaffirms Belarus’ adherence to one-China policy, reads the statement of the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in connection with the regional elections in Taiwan on 16 January.

"Taking note of the regional elections in Taiwan on 16 January, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reaffirms Belarus’ adherence to the one-China policy, recognizing that the government of the People's Republic of China is the sole legitimate government representing the whole of China and that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory,” the statement said.

This position is embodied in a number of bilateral Belarusian-Chinese agreements and the Joint Declaration of the Republic of Belarus and the People's Republic of China on further development and deepening of the relations of comprehensive strategic partnership adopted in May 2015.

The statement stresses that the Republic of Belarus advocates the peaceful evolutionary development of the Cross-Strait relations.
