MFA: Belarus is interested in mutually respectful cooperation with USA

MINSK, 1 April (BelTA) - Belarus is interested in developing relations with the United States, but on the basis of mutual respect, Press Secretary of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Anatoly Glaz said in an interview to the ONT TV channel, BelTA has learned.

“We are actually having a dialogue. The late Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Oleg Kravchenko called this situation ‘a critical dialogue’, which means we have it, maintain working contacts. Of course, we are interested in developing relations with the United States, but on the basis of mutual respect, sovereignty, independence and other fundamental values in international relations,” said Anatoly Glaz.

Speaking about the actions of U.S. diplomat Julie Fischer, who was appointed U.S. ambassador to Belarus at the end of 2020, the press secretary of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that Belarus views her only as an “appointed ambassador”, because she has not yet taken up her duties.

Anatoly Glaz also commented on the recent statement of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, made in connection with the U.S. Embassy's statement of 25 March. The ironic comments of the Belarusian ministry caused a heated discussion among diplomats and society in general.

Responding to the accusations of the use of undiplomatic statements, the spokesman of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the statement of the U.S. Embassy was taken as the basis, so all the accusations should be addressed to it.
