Metropolitan Pavel asks worshipers not to attend church amid COVID-19 outbreak

MINSK, 14 April (BelTA) – Metropolitan Pavel of Minsk and Zaslavl, Patriarchal Exarch of All Belarus has called upon the faithful not to attend church services amid the novel coronavirus pandemic, BelTA has learned.

“We are calling on the faithful not to attend church services these days. If you do come, please practice social distancing. Churches will stay open to conduct services. We are still asking you to restrict from coming and stay home. Believe us, this will benefit you and your loved ones more,” the Metropolitan said.

Easter food will be blessed outside the churches. “Easter cakes and curd puddings will be blessed outside the churches. We call upon everyone to pray at home these days. Services will be broadcast on TV,” Metropolitan Pavel said.

He also asked people not to visit cemeteries on Radunitsa, the day to commemorate the dead relatives.
