Margvelashvili: Georgia sees a great resource in the relations with Belarus

MINSK, 26 March (BelTA) - Georgia sees a huge resource in the relations with Belarus, Georgia President Giorgi Margvelashvili said in an interview with the ONT TV channel, BelTA informs.

The president stressed that he views the cooperation prospects with Belarus as excellent. “This is the friendship of the two leaders, which has already yielded fruits, and not abstract, but concrete. This will be the cooperation that will be tangible for all the Belarusians and all the Georgians. The prospects are growing. I cannot see any factors that could create problems for these prospects. We see a great resource in these relations and between two freedom-loving and hard-working nations,” said Giorgi Margvelashvili.

He also shared his impressions of the meeting with Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko and praised Belarus’ approach to the development of relations. “When you talk with the President of Belarus, you talk about the ways to make life better for ordinary citizens. This is what I am especially interested in. That is why we could find common approaches, a common language, and through this rapprochement we have already reached such a level of relations,” said the Georgian leader.

Giorgi Margvelashvili also mentioned a big number of agreements Georgia and Belarus signed during the official visit of the Belarusian head of state on 22-23 March.

He stressed Belarus’ readiness to share experience in various areas. “The Belarusians do not look at us as a market, which needs to be used up to the end, but as partners,” the Georgian president said.

Giorgi Margvelashvili also stressed Alexander Lukashenko’s great experience as the head of state. “This is a person who has met with many leaders and who has excellent relations with dozens of world leaders. This is a person who shares this experience with you and looks at political processes with an extensive experience of the relationships he has. These qualities are of great significance to me and facilitate the negotiations and promotion of projects that are very important for Georgia today,” the Georgian leader said.
