Makei: Level of Belarus-Russia interaction unmatched among post-Soviet states

MINSK, 23 May (BelTA) - The level of interaction between Russia and Belarus is unmatched among the post-Soviet states, Belarus’ Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei said during a meeting with young diplomats and foreign service veterans of Russia and Belarus, BelTA has learned.

“Russia is the top priority of our foreign policy. It is our strategic partner and ally in the international arena. The level of interaction that we have achieved over the years, in my understanding, is unmatched in the post-Soviet space. We coordinate our efforts in the bilateral format and in the international organizations in a systemic and trust-based manner,” Vladimir Makei noted.

According to the minister, the two countries have been developing all-round cooperation. “I believe that the Union State has a future. Today we should strengthen the integration in this organization as well,” Vladimir Makei said.

The Belarusian minister of foreign affairs stated that Belarus and Russia may have disagreements from time to time, and this is normal. He stressed that these disagreements should be addressed through an open and sincere dialogue, which the countries actually do.

“The things that sometimes spill onto the pages of print and electronic media, some emotional statements or opinions are not a reflection of our true relationship. I believe this is simply an exception to the rule. The main thing is that there is a clear understanding that all issues must be resolved in a spirit of open dialogue, which we do and will continue doing so in the future,” he said.

As BelTA reported earlier, the visit of representatives of veterans and youth organizations of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been organized as part of the events dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
