MINSK, 27 September (BelTA) – Belarus has been a target of the West’s belligerent pressure for more than a year. Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei made the statement during the 76th session of the General Assembly of the United Nations Organization in New York, USA on 27 September, BelTA has learned.

Vladimir Makei said: “Although calls for stronger security, multilaterality, solidarity, and mutual assistance are made in these walls every year, today the world has reached the highest degree of confrontation. Belarus is also involved in this geopolitical war against its will. For more than a year our country has been a target of belligerent pressure from the collective West. And only because the scenario of yet another color revolution that has been polished to perfection and timed to the presidential election has failed in Belarus. Today a massive hybrid war has been launched against Belarus.”

According to the minister, he is surprised by the lengths authors go to in order to invent pretty but hypocritical words to justify their destructive actions such as “measures to support democracy”, “sectoral restrictions”, “facilitation of the nation’s wellbeing”, and “facilitation of the sovereignty of the state”.

“However, their essence is obvious: the West cannot come to terms with the choice made by a majority of Belarusians because this choice of Belarusian voters has ruined plans of individual strategists. The blitzkrieg designed to replace the government in Belarus has failed. Moreover, the West very quickly lost the ‘street’ with its protest moods organized from the outside. Calculations didn’t pan out. Belarus continues persistently and successfully developing and following the path it has chosen on its own,” the Belarusian minister of foreign affairs stressed.

Vladimir Makei stated that today the Belarusian nation is united in choosing the strategic policy aimed at building a strong, sovereign, and prosperous state. “It is the goal of the inclusive constitutional reform, which is nearly finished in Belarus and which involves all the population strata.”

“In order to continue demonizing Belarus, make it look like a source of tensions in the region, and justify its destructive actions against our state, the West has fabricated a conflict situation with refugees at Belarus’ western borders. The West has forgotten its international commitments regarding our country and regarding the countries of origin of the refugees,” Vladimir Makei added.
