Makei: Hungary has always had pragmatic approach to Belarus
MINSK, 14 January (BelTA) –  Hungary has always had a pragmatic approach to Belarus, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei said as he met with Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto, BelTA has learned.

The Belarusian foreign minister emphasized the importance of the fact that the high-ranking Hungarian official had visited Belarus many times already. “Our meetings have become regular and the agenda is always packed with topics to discuss,” Vladimir Makei said.

“Hungary has always had a pragmatic approach to Belarus. Hungary has a principled stance regarding noninterference with domestic affairs of other countries,” he noted.

Vladimir Makei welcomed the development of the political dialogue and intensive trade and economic contacts. He noted that the parties are set to discuss Belarus-Hungary cooperation prospects across many areas during the forthcoming meetings and talks in Minsk on 14 January. The foreign minister expressed hope that this visit will be highly fruitful.

Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto noted that it is his fourth visit to Minsk. In his view, the regular exchange of visits highlights the importance of bilateral relations. Peter Szijjarto emphasized that Belarus and Hungary are members of different integration associations – the EU and the EAEU, but Belarus-Hungary relations are based on profound mutual trust. Peter Szijjarto believes that it is necessary to maintain momentum in trade and economic cooperation. He welcomed vigorous bilateral trade and efficient implementation of joint projects.

Belarus and Hungary are set to sign a number of bilateral documents on 14 January.
