Makei: Belarus will continue maintaining friendly relations with India

MINSK, 26 January (BelTA) - Belarus is determined to continue maintaining traditionally warm and friendly relations with India, Belarus Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei said at an official reception held on 26 January to mark India’s Republic Day, BelTA has learned.

“We are proud of the fact that a highly promising partner in South Asia such as India invests its efforts in maintaining our friendly relations and mutually beneficial cooperation,” said the minister. “2017 marks the 25th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between our countries. Since 1992 Belarus and India have been steadily expanding cooperation across a wide range of areas and strengthening mutual understanding between the two nations. We have been advancing our bilateral relations in every area and at all the levels,” Vladimir Makei added.

The minister emphasized that the two countries have regularly exchanged high-level visits. Belarus and India have also established a mechanism of bilateral consultations and cooperation. In June 2015 Indian President Pranab Mukherjee paid an official visit to Belarus. Later, Mikhail Myasnikovich, the Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus, visited India.

According to Vladimir Makei, the exchange of visits promotes the bilateral ties onto a new level and contributes to the full implementation of the cooperation potential. The Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs is confident that “the Belarusian-Indian strategic partnership based on the time-tested traditions of friendship, equality and mutual respect will continue strengthening to contribute to the development of a better future for all the nations, building of peaceful and harmonious world order.”
