MINSK, 29 July (BelTA) – The education reform should be completed by September 2022 to bring education to a higher level, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he made new appointments on 29 July, BelTA has learned.

Next year, education will be in focus of our activities, the president stressed as he addressed rectors of universities. “Next year, until 1 September, we will be focusing on education. We should finish all undertakings and so-called reforms by that time. From textbooks to the educational process – stakeholders should revise everything and decide what to preserve and what to get rid of, relieving education from unnecessary things and improving it,” Aleksandr Lukashenko noted.

“The Education Ministry, the Belarus President Administration, and the government should consider how to deal with all problems that have piled up in education by 1 September 2022,” the head of state added.

According to Aleksandr Lukashenko, it is important to address issues with centralized testing, organization of the educational process, first job placement of university graduates, and signing contracts and agreements with students of higher education institutions. “Most importantly, we should enforce discipline and order in the educational process. This is not about the singing of ‘Magutny Bozha’ in the street or in the university building. Not at all. If we do not reform the education system, we will not be competitive, our graduates, our specialists will not be competitive in the market, even in Belarus. Everyone wants to work in the West or elsewhere. We do not mind this. However, we would like our specialists to return home after working and gaining experience abroad. This is the point,” the president stressed.

“We should adopt modern approaches and reform our education. The deadline is 1 September 2022,” the Belarusian head of state said. He also pointed out that Belarus should finish upgrading the healthcare system by the end of 2021. “We will dot the i's and cross the t's in healthcare by the end of the year,” he said.
