Lukashenko sends anniversary greetings to Zhirovichi Monastery

MINSK, 20 May (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko has congratulated fellow Belarusians on the 555th anniversary of the discovery of the miraculous Zhirovichi Icon of the Mother of God and the 505th anniversary of the Holy Dormition Stavropegic Monastery in Zhirovichi, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian leader.
“For more than five centuries, prayers for the native land have been heard here; and the miraculous icon exuding healing power draws pilgrims from all over the world. Millions of people get hope by touching the relic and are spiritually enriched by visiting the monastery,” the message of congratulations reads.
Thanks to the state, the professionalism of the construction workers and the efforts of the clergy, the monastery has turned into the center of Belarusian Orthodoxy, the president noted.
“I am confident that this holy place will keep uniting Christians for many years to come and will contribute to the strengthening of interfaith peace and harmony in society,” Aleksandr Lukashenko emphasized.
The head of state wished everyone good health, boundless faith and success in their work for the prosperity of Belarus.
