Lukashenko sees advanced technologies as key to country’s defense capability, sovereignty

MINSK, 14 February (BelTA) - Advanced technologies are essential for defense capability, sovereignty and independence of the state, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said during a meeting to discuss the prospects for the Belarusian microelectronics industry development on 14 February, BelTA has learned.

"Once again we need to examine the performance of microelectronics, one of the most important sectors of the Belarusian manufacturing industry. This is not for the sake of showing off our capabilities. This is because microelectronics has become very important all over the world today. The electronics plays a very important role for the future of both Belarus and Russia. Nowadays, advanced technologies guarantee the defense capability, sovereignty and independence of the state," Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed.

The head of state remarked that Belarus is one of the few countries with strong expertise in the development and manufacturing of a wide range of electronic components, and in the production of unique technological equipment for the industry enterprises.

"Literally few countries in the world produce semiconductors. However, time is short. Our competitors do not stand idle. We see it," the president pointed out. “We have not only preserved production facilities, but more importantly, we have retained scientists, designers and engineers. We continue to develop the employee training  programs and teach young talent. In other words, we have very strong, world-class expertise. We will develop and move in this direction. We will invest funds in these areas because we are world-class developers and manufacturers in this respect."
