Lukashenko: Security topped agenda of CIS summit in Dushanbe

DUSHANBE, 28 September (BelTA) – Security matters were in focus of the session of the CIS Council of Heads of State in Tajikistan’s capital Dushanbe, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said in a brief interview to Russian journalists on the sidelines of the summit, BelTA has learned.

“Security was the focal point of today’s summit. All the presidents speak about it. Even the peaceful Belarus keeps it in mind all the time, in particular in the context of the challenges and threats associated with the actions of western countries and NATO near our borders, the borders of the Union State,” Alexander Lukashenko noted.

“By the way, we discussed this issue confidentially with Vladimir Putin. I will not go into detail, but this was the matter that we personally discussed during the one-on-one meeting,” the president specified.

The head of state noted that a number of factors have an impact on security. “Take us, for example. A lot has been said about it at the summit by the presidents, including by me and Nursultan Nazarbayev. This pertains to the east of Ukraine, Transnistria, and Nagorno-Karabakh. We need to team up somehow and cut these Gordian Knots and many others,” the Belarusian leader said.
