Lukashenko: Police secure adequate level of public security

MINSK, 28 January (BelTA) – The work of the police helps secure an adequate level of public security in the country, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said at the session of the board of the Interior Ministry to discuss the performance of law enforcement bodies in 2015, BelTA has learned.

According to Alexander Lukashenko, the results of the work of the Interior Ministry subdivisions in 2015 testify to the fact. “You are in control of the situation and are able to prevent any aggravation in the crime situation, protect the society, every citizen from any offence,” said the head of state.

“Sometimes I ask myself whether our police is capable of response if there is, God forbid, some sort of an emergency situation. And my answer is: absolutely! The police have changed a lot. I am absolutely sure that, if necessary, almost 100% of our police officers can properly respond to any attempts to destabilize the situation and can put things in order.” The head of state added that the police still have deficiencies that must be corrected.

"Based on your work, citizens assess the government and its ability to ensure the rule of law in the country, personal security, and the legitimate rights and interests. The most important criteria are the ability to walk in the streets at any time of the day and night, be calm about the safety of children, and the safety of their property” the President stressed.

Alexander Lukashenko cited the independent sociological survey data, according to which almost 80% of citizens expressed confidence of their security. According to the President, it shows that people appreciate the work of the police. “I understand that there are different people among the police. But in general our people and visitors to our country have a high opinion of your work. For this I am very grateful to you,” the head of state added.
