Lukashenko: Pneumonia treatment should be placed in focus in Belarus

MINSK, 3 May (BelTA) -  Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko stresses the importance of paying attention to pneumonia treatment in the current epidemiological situation, BelTA learned.

“Analyzing the whole situation, we pay special attention to pneumonia. This is what we are doing today. We have observed an increase in the incidence of pneumonia over last year (by 40-50 people in four months). It is just a pittance for our health care system. Indeed, the pneumonia incidence has grown a little bit. I think this situation will level off by the end of the year. We see that the main thing for us today is the treatment for pneumonia. Please keep this thing in mind. For me, it is the number one issue. I will execute very serious control over these processes," the head of state said.

According to him, the main thing in this regard is not even the number of people who have been diagnosed with coronavirus, but the the situation with pneumonia.

“The more we test people (9,500 -10,000 daily tests now), the more people we diagnose with the virus. This indictor is about 9% of the tested. I take this into account, I analyze this dynamic. Especially since I asked you for the forecast. And you gave me the forecast how these diseases would develop 1,5-2 months ago. I am watching how accurate your forecast is,” the Belarusian leader said.

“Tests are not always accurate. I receive this information from different places: hospitals, laboratories. Well, all the tests were done on the go. We have already starting doing antibody tests,” Aleksandr Lukashenko added.
