Lukashenko pledges to keep Belarus peaceful

MINSK, 22 February (BelTA) – The Belarusian authorities will do everything possible to ensure that Belarus remain a peaceful island on the distressed planet, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said at an official reception to mark the Day of the Fatherland Defenders and the Armed Forces of Belarus, BelTA has learned.

Aleksandr Lukashenko noted that the society is asking a question whether there will be war. But the war has long been raging against Belarus, the president said. "A hybrid war. This is modern warfare: blitzkrieg, pressure through mass media, and then economic and financial warfare, which is expressed in sanctions. Excessive sanctions mean strangulation of any state and people. They can put any state on the brink of a hot war. So the war is going on. Today's period is so complex and contradictory and we preach to God that he saves us from mistakes, wrong decisions and steps. It is a very small step between betrayal of friends and allies and countering this aggression. We, Belarusians, must make sure that we do not get into trouble and in no case allow betrayal, which will remain a stain on the entire Belarusian people," the head of state said.

"Please, remember: the government and I, as President, will do everything possible to keep Belarus a peaceful island on this distressed planet," Aleksandr Lukashenko said. “You may ask, what is the reason, what is our fault that we have always been affected by wars? The answer is simple: either as a curse or as a gift but the Lord gave our people the land here, in the center of Europe, at the crossroads of all roads. "

The head of state figuratively noted that this intersection cannot be bypassed. "But it's not our fault. We did not choose our motherland. It happened so historically, over centuries. We have always been peaceful, and we have nothing to be ashamed of: not for the confrontation between Ukraine and Russia, Donbass, Donetsk, Lugansk. Please, remember my position: we have always advocated peace."
