Lukashenko pleased with conditions for arts and crafts in Belarus

MINSK, 22 December (BelTA) – All the necessary measures have been taken for the development of arts and crafts in Belarus. Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko made the statement as he met with representatives of the Belarusian business community on 22 December, BelTA has learned.

Alexander Lukashenko said: “Arts and crafts are popular among Belarusians. Some 23,000 people were involved in this branch of the economy last year. Their number was five times smaller several years ago. More steps have already been taken to support this kind of activity. The list of allowed craft activities has been expanded. Besides, one craftsman can now take two or three pupils in order to pass on his or her craft.”

Belarusian craftsmen now have more freedom in selling results of their work. In the past they could sell them only at special fairs. Now they can sell them in their workshops, online or by mail.

“We’ve asked them what needs to be done to make the life of craftsmen easier and have made the relevant decisions based on their answers,” noted Alexander Lukashenko.
