Lukashenko identifies Belarus’ adversaries and enemies
MINSK, 9 May (BelTA) – Fascism now has a different face – a polished one, but that doesn’t change its essence, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said during the wreath-laying ceremony at the Victory Monument in Minsk on 9 May, BelTA has learned.
“The Victory Banner is in our hands today. Passing it from generation to generation, we fight on all fronts for the truth about that war, for our status as victors, and for the sovereign right to choose our own path on our own land. Belarusians know better than anyone how quickly slogans of a ‘new order’ turn into gallows, camps, ashes, and nameless pits,” the head of state said. “And though fascism now has a different face, a polished one, this does not change its essence. We see that face. The ideas of superpower status and superiority are growing stronger, inflicting new wounds upon the world. And they are already right at our borders.”
“We know who our adversary and enemy is. It is not the peoples. There are families living in Europe who, like Belarusians, preserve truthful memories of the war unleashed by Hitler’s fascists. Our enemy consists of revanchists, the direct and ideological descendants of the SS, Banderites, and the Forest Brothers. Those who are right now removing the remains of Soviet soldiers from Šiauliai in Lithuania and calling the heroic deed of the Soviet people a myth. Those who methodically erase the Red Army’s victory from the history of World War II and deny us access to the burial sites of our grandfathers and great-grandfathers. To the monuments that are still intact,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
“But we remember. We remember and honor the liberators of our native land – today and forever. All these flowers and wreaths are also laid in memory of those who remain buried in foreign lands, having given their lives for the sake of the peoples of Europe. They must be brought back home,” the president emphasized.
