Lukashenko describes 2020 events as ‘wake-up call’ for Belarus that should never repeat again

MINSK, 24 January (BelTA) – The events of 2020 were a “wake-up call” for the Belarusian society and such things will never happen again, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he attended the final concert of the Marathon of Unity campaign on 24 January, BelTA has learned.

According to the head of state, Belarusians are kind, hospitable and very tolerant people. “We know how to listen and believe. Our Slavic essence is such: we believe others. This quality of the Belarusian people played a cruel joke in the history of independent Belarus, when we believed others. In 2020, some of our people believed in a better life abroad,” the head of state said.

“We almost destroyed ourselves. Let's talk frankly about it. But it was a very important ‘wake-up call’ for us. We got it. All our opponents and enemies should realize: do not get your hopes up, we will never repeat what we had in 2020,” the Belarusian leader said.
