MINSK, 9 August (BelTA) – Belarus needs to hold a referendum on constitutional amendments in an open and fair way, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said at the Big Conversation with the President, a meeting with the public, experts and media community in the format of a big press conference in Minsk on 9 August, BelTA has learned.

“We have nothing to hide. We need to conduct the referendum in an open and fair way, in keeping with the Constitution,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

The president added that the final draft of the new Constitution will be put out for public scrutiny. “Maybe we will need to correct something after it will be submitted for public debate before the referendum. We will take public opinion on board. Everything will be done in a democratic way, everything will be impeccable,” the Belarusian leader assured.
